Dixon Place Opening 150-Seat Theater on L.E.S.

Come November, theatrical organization Dixon Place will have a new home on the Lower East Side. Founded in 1986, the nonprofit has inhabited a variety of places over the years, but the new space on Chrystie Street will be a permanent one. And when it's finished, the Dixon Place Theater will be available for event rentals.

Divided into two sections, this venue will offer a 150-seat theater with custom seating from Kush Furniture, a front row of couches and living room furniture, and a 40-seat mezzanine. With the main stage cleared, this space will hold 300 for receptions or approximately 100 for a seated dinner. Occupying the front portion of the venue will be a 65-person lounge, with a small cabaret area and bar.

In addition to a full array of theatrical lighting and sound gear, Dixon Place Theater will have beams for acrobatic performances, four dressing rooms, a rehearsal studio that can double as a catering prep area, and a professional sound studio. The venue will be available Mondays through Wednesdays, or any night a performance isn’t booked in the space.
