It would hardly be a stretch to describe the style of Tarina Tarantino—whose accessories collections include skulls rendered in beads, Alice in Wonderland-inspired baubles, and rhinestones galore—as edgy, kitschy, colorful, and whimsical. So when the accessories designer launched a beauty line, to be presented exclusively by Sephora, the party bore those characteristics too, with a playful, girlie look and feel.
The brand's Melissa Rosenfield worked with Jes Gordon Proper Fun to produce and design the event on Wednesday night at Siren Studios in Hollywood. There, oversized, colorful branded signage dressed the raw space—starting with a step-and-repeat wall out front that bore the likenesses of mannequin heads and logos contained within a frame.
Inside, jumbo baubles festooned a row of colorful vanities that lined the far wall, where guests could stop by for touchups using products from the new collection. Overhead, more fake pearls dripped from chandeliers, some of which took the inspiration for their quirky shapes from octopus tentacles.
Upon mirrored tabletops, beads and products from the new collection filled glass vessels like candy jars, and pink peonies lent a feminine look. Suspended above two bars—where signature "Sparklicity" cocktails mixed champagne, vodka, and grenadine—Gordon staged empty frames that gave the appearance that guests were peering into mirrors, only to find a bartender on the other side.
DJ Mia Moretti spun for the thick crowd, and servers—wearing Tarantino's makeup compacts as accessories and rhinestone-framed glasses—passed the likes of mac and cheese, and veggie spring rolls from Candice Food Couture.
