Traditional venues like hotels and clubs might be the easiest places to hold events, but atypical spaces can surprise guests, generate buzz, and set a certain mood. Here are seven recent events held in unconventional spots like airports, parking lots, and backyards.

In August, Toronto's Bridle Path Foundation held its annual fund-raiser in the backyard of a residential home, drawing 1,500 guests. Mandell Entertainment Group erected a stage next to a swimming pool and set up a DJ booth with go-go dancers performing on an elevated platform among the trees.

To celebrate the opening of Six Points, a retail space on Chicago's Milwaukee Avenue, Nike worked with Event Creative and Experient to transform a vacant bank building into a speakeasy in May. Each guest received a mailed invitation with a numbered safe-deposit-box key, which they presented for admission at the bank's entrance.

In June, Miami Gardens mayor and Congressional candidate Shirley Gibson hosted a cocktail party for nearly 175 supporters in Circle of One Marketing's enclosed parking lot. Circle of One reached out to 13 local caterers and chefs, who set up food stations around the perimeter of the event space and served small plates.

More than 2,000 guests filled CTV's Queen Street headquarters for a party tied to the MuchMusic Video Awards in June. CTV worked with Three Event Planning & Design to create two party spaces in the eTalk and MuchMusic studios on the building's main floor, and another in the network's fifth-floor offices.
