1. Blushington
Blushington opened in the fall in West Hollywood and is a fun pick for a female-centric pampering event. The makeup-only salon has a smart, girlie peach-and-white look. Buyout of one room is available for eight people for $350. Two rooms hold 16 for $700, or the entire venue accommodates 28 people for $1,500 per hour, including full makeup application for all guests. The whole space holds about 75 in all for a reception.

The new, 32-room Palihotel opened in February, and it comes with a cool pampering space right for groups. The Thai Thai spa is available for buyout and offers Thai massage on six beds. There's also a blow-dry bar with two chairs, which can become part of the event.

3. Spot 5750
Formerly a club and now open exclusively for private events, Spot 5750 in Hollywood is a pool hall and sports bar that sprawls out over 25,000 square feet. For groups, there's the Crown Room, which holds 65 for a reception with three pool tables and five 50-inch plasma TVs. The Director's Lounge has an option of two pool tables, three 42-inch plasma TVs, and a capacity of about 40. A private dining room holds 20 for a seated event and has privacy curtains and four plasma TVs. The lounge patio can be broken into two sections, one for about 75 for a reception with a 61-inch projection screen, and another for about 25 for a seated event.

Take a group from a boardroom to a more relaxed setting at the new Hotel Hanford, which offers a wine salon set with a table for 10 guests. The hotel can arrange tasting events and educational sessions focused on wine, and can customize the experience to the group's tastes and budget. The salon's bottles are on view behind glass.

For pampering events, Rossano Ferretti Hairspa in Beverly Hills covers 5,000 square feet on two levels. The upper level, known as the Prive, is for clients who want a more intimate, private feel. There are three rooms, in addition to a large lounge space, making it right for private parities. The salon's decor includes black velvet curtains that serve as a dramatic entrance and provide privacy. The center of the venue houses a long black lacquered community table, good for meals or snacks. The salon itself is equipped with a stereo system and—a rarity among salons in town—a 12-space private parking lot.

In the Santa Monica Mountains of Malibu is the 60-year-old Calamigos Ranch, which has several new offerings among its teambuilding activities. “Cake Wars” challenges teams to come up with a design and concept and then, using the provided baking necessities, plates of sheet cake, frosting, and decorating kits, work together to execute their projects. Afterward, all participants are invited to a dessert party with each of the cakes and a champagne toast. The activity can be done completely outdoors, weather permitting, on Calamigos' sprawling grounds.

The Limoneira Ranch regulation bocce ball courts are a hit as an activity to keep the energy up during meeting breaks.
