More than 1,500 artists participate in the event, which attracts a crowd of more than 60,000. Now in its 22nd year, the Armory Show returns to Piers 92 and 94 in March with an emphasis on African perspectives. The show marks the start of Armory Arts Week, a citywide initiative to showcase New York's art scene. Next: March 3-6, 2016

#2 Art, Design & Architecture Event
Formerly known as the Architectural Digest Home Design Show, the four-day fair features more than 400 premium brands in categories including furniture, home accessories, art, flooring, electronics, and more. More than 40,000 people attend the event each year, and a portion of the proceeds benefits the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, which hosts its Dining by Design event during the show’s run. #3 Art, Design & Architecture Event
This year, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair rebrands as I.C.F.F. In 2015, the event drew 32,000 industry professionals and included a 30 percent larger footprint than prior years, more programming, and on-floor education programs curated by the American Society of Interior Designers. Michelle Obama served as honorary patron at last year's gala at Pier 60. This year, hundreds of industry insiders will reconvene during National Design Week to recognize excellence in categories like landscape architecture, fashion design, and product design. Next: October 20, 2016

The contemporary art fair returns for the fifth year in 2016, bringing together artists from more than 200 galleries around the world. Once again, the event will be sponsored by Deutsche Bank and will include shows, talks, and immersive cultural experiences. Next: May 5-8, 2016

With the help of 1,200 volunteers, the 2015 iteration drew upwards of 80,000 visitors to more than 250 architecturally significant sites across the five boroughs. Next: October 15-16, 2016

Roughly 900 guests attend the highly regarded annual gala at the Academy's TriBeCa campus. Models, live music, dancers, and art installations will channel the spirit of this year's theme, the "Seven Seas." Next: April 4, 2016
