City Spotlight: Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Gatlinburg
Describing Gatlinburg, Tennessee, is easy. Nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, our quaint town is filled with everything a meeting planner needs for a successful event: beautiful, state-of-the-art meeting facilities, hotels, motels, cabins, condominiums and chalets; hundreds of shops, restaurants and attractions for groups of every age and interest—all in an accessible, walkable destination.

Always “Updating”

Gatlinburg delivers a cool, downtown vibe because there is always something new opening. The newly opened 162-sleeping room Margaritaville Resort Gatlinburg, which opened June 2018, is everything a mountain resort should be. The “casual-luxe” atmosphere and gracious service transports guests to a new level of resort experience. In January 2019, the Margaritaville Resort Gatlinburg was named the best new hotel in 2018 in the country by USA Today’s 10Best Reader’s Choice Travel Awards. It was in the running for the title against 20 other hotels that were initially chosen by a panel of industry experts along with 10Best editors. Readers then ranked the top 10 winners by popular vote. USA Today said the hotel’s relaxed and beachy Jimmy Buffett vibe combined with the amenities of a Smoky Mountains resort set it apart from the rest. Blake Shelton’s long-awaited restaurant and bar, Ole Red Gatlinburg, officially opened in downtown Gatlinburg in March 2019. The entertainment venue celebrated “Spring Blake” with a full day of activity including a memorable performance by Shelton featuring special guests the Swon Brothers on the Ole Gatlinburg stage. Shelton officially christened the venue’s stage when performing his extensive catalog of hits for a packed house of over 500 fans. â€śI feel like this place already has good vibes, we have started this off right,” Shelton shared with the rowdy opening night crowd. â€śThis will always be embedded in the walls and all the cracks and crevices in here. This night, the way it all started… thank you all for being here and having this much energy… I love this so much!”

Additional Gatlinburg Festivities for Meeting & Convention Attendees

Gatlinburg has many groups coordinate their conference to coincide with scheduled city events like Winefest, Chili Cookoff, Smoky Mountain Music Festival and Gatlinburg Arts & Crafts Shows. Smoky Mountain Tunes & Talesreturns this summer for its 13th year to entertain Gatlinburg visitors. Tunes & Tales is a summer-long street performance festival featuring costumed musical performers, storytellers and cloggers portraying characters from time periods as far back as the 1800s. This popular seven-week event has made the walkable streets of Gatlinburg its live stage, enriching the summer season with interactive, educational and entertaining performances.

Price Factor

Price is always a determining factor for groups of all sizes and markets. Gatlinburg hotels do not charge for overnight guest parking. This is a “hidden cost” savings that Gatlinburg offers that most destination’s hotels do not offer.
