Security and safety concerns are increasingly a top priority for planners, reported MPI in its fall 2016 edition of
“Meetings Outlook,” a quarterly report surveying a random selection of MPI’s 60,000 members who work in the meetings and events industry. We took a closer look at the numbers to see what lies ahead for planners in 2017 in terms of security and industry trends.
Safety Concerns
14 percent of planners say security concerns sway their choice in a destination.
15 percent say, in regard to security, they have increased their threat awareness and have become more prepared to respond to risks.
13 percent of planners are coming up with more detailed security plans for their events.
Another
13 percent claimed to be incorporating more security training for employees.
More Industry Trends for 2017
A mere
8 percent of planners believe others in the industry are making the most of event technology—leaving much room for improvement.
10 percent of planners report growth in live attendance and anticipate that figure to grow by a projected
1.9 percent in 2017. On the flip side, they see virtual attendance increasing by
2.4 percent.
10 percent of planners are adding virtual experiences into their budgets in 2017.
