The Glamour Women of the Year awards at the American Museum of Natural History shone with silver sequins and spinning disco balls—never mind the countless flash bulbs capturing the parade of celebrity presenters, award winners and guests. Glamour's PR team headed by Jennifer Peters helped the magazine plan the evening.
The program began in the Le Frak theater with the presentation of awards to an eclectic mix of honorees—including Britney Spears and Jessica Lynch, the ubiquitous duo found on just about every television network that week—on a set designed by Bruce Ryan and built by Overland Entertainment. A gold frame surrounded a video screen at the center of the stage that broadcast live video of the presentation, as well as a video bio of each recipient prepared by CLV. Overland coordinated the technical production and talent management for the awards ceremony.
Afterwards, guests headed to a party in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life, where the giant blue whale replica suspended from the ceiling created a dramatic milieu. Blue lights resembling reflecting water danced on the ceiling above the whale, where Frost Lighting projected this year's Glamour Women of the Year logo. Swirling blue disco balls contributed to the blue aura, while Avi Adler's giant bouquets of red and white flowers—predominantly roses—added bright splashes of color throughout the space. Four-tiered sculptures made of glowing red votives illuminated the central bar. Flat screen monitors high above the crowd showed CLV's video highlights from past award shows.
Many of the 800 guests dined on the diverse assortment of food provided by Restaurant Associates at silver sequin-covered tables adorned with red or white flowers and votives. Options like individual portions of Chinese noodles in mini take-out containers and a mashed potato bar where guests could fill martini glasses with potatoes and toppings added variety to the caterer's traditional fruit and cheese assortments.
V.I.P. guests had the option to forgo the tables, eating instead at plush couches, where sequin pillows added an extra measure of comfort and, of course, glamour.
