It wasn't just the footwear that dazzled at Stuart Weitzman's intimate party for 100 showing off the $1 million shoes to be worn by recording artist and nominee Kathleen York on the Oscars' red carpet. Working with Stuart and Jane Weitzman, event producer Randy Fuhrman turned Christie's into a glamorous dining room done in red, black, and white—inspired by Rita Hayworth's personal collection of rubies and sapphires, which princess Yasmin Aga Kahn, Hayworth's daughter, allowed to deck the shoes. (Clothes Off Our Back will auction the pricey pretties after the awards.)Recalling an earlier era of Hollywood sparkle, red satin sashes hung asymmetrically from the chair backs, complementing graphic black and white flower-printed tablecloths. Red satin napkins and seat cushions punched up the look. Floral designer Majid Sadr of Muguet created unusual arrangements for the tabletops—working with California poppies, roses, lilies, and more—that alternately towered over the tables and sat low in squat vases. The tall arrangements sprung from the tops of clear, cylindrical vases containing rhinestone-encrusted, petal-covered shoes in water. Baron Hertzog and Bacardi sponsored the bars; bartenders mixed signature red cocktails using Bacardi and pomegranate juice to match the look. Christie's invited guests to try on over-the-top diamond baubles from a glass display on the south wall.
