More than 40 dancers, acrobats, and musicians performed in an elaborate show at the Orange County Convention Center Tuesday night for the closing session of the Prudential Real Estate Sales Convention. Unlike past years when the event has closed with entertainers such as Jay Leno and Sheryl Crow, this year organizers hired Corporate Magic to create a cirque-style show to tie into the event’s theme of “I Imagine.”
“We wanted something different this year, something visually pleasing that would carry our message through from the two days of the general session into the evening and be a once-in-a-lifetime experience designed only for Prudential,” said Denise Doyle, director of conference and meeting services for Prudential.
Corporate Magic senior creative director Stephen Dahlem said the 45-minute show was intended to illustrate where ideas come from. “Each one of the cirque acts were representative of the different types of inspiration that you walk through the world and experience: art, music, science, and literature,” he said. Images projected onto six large screens created a backdrop for the live performers. During the art segment, images of picture frames moved around the screens, while during the literature portion the words of Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven” scrolled across the screens.
Dahlem used green-screen technology to create some of the videos so it looked like the dancers were interacting with the images on the screens. For example, one dancer appeared to play drums projected onto the screens, and another one seemed to manipulate colorful butterfly wings on the screen behind her.
More than 2,500 real estate agents and broker-owners from the United States, Canada, and Mexico attended the conference.
