1. Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala

Up from #2
New York
Known for its exclusive guest list and viral fashion moments, the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala—aka the Met Gala—is held annually to toast the opening of the spring exhibit and serve as a fundraiser for the Costume Institute. This year’s exhibit In America: An Anthology of Fashion, as usual, influenced the evening’s dress code. The event’s 400 guests were asked to enter on the red carpet wearing their best “Gilded Glamour” attire—and they did not disappoint. The gala raised a record-breaking $17.4 million and was chaired by Blake Lively (pictured) and Ryan Reynolds, Regina King, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Next: May 1, 2023

2. New York Fashion Week

New York
One of the most anticipated events of the year, New York Fashion Week (NYFW) took place as a mostly in-person event for six days in February. While some brands, like Tom Ford, opted out due to health safety concerns, many brands known for their NYFW runway shows still made an appearance, whether IRL or virtual via the show’s official video platform, NYFW: The Shows. As the event’s official innovation partner, Yahoo, for example, hosted the Maisie Wilen Fall-Winter 2022 Collection Holographic Experience (pictured), which merged in-person and virtual elements, and was available to both audiences. Title sponsor Afterpay also hosted myriad digital and live events, including NYFW ShopsLA, an open-to-the-public consumer experience held at Westfield’s Century City on Feb. 12. The event featured a live performance by singer Gayle, plus interactive shopping experiences, food, prizes, and more. More than 300 events took place throughout the week, and #NYFW received more than 1 million online mentions. Next: Feb. 9-15, 2023
