After three years as the special events coordinator for the Washington National Opera, Liz Early began a new job at the Washington Performing Arts Society on July 8.

In her new role as the nonprofit’s associate director of development/director of special events, Early will be responsible for planning roughly 40 donor recognition events as well as two fund-raising galas every year. (Read about last May's 640-guest benefit here.) She will also work closely with embassies throughout the city to coordinate and celebrate the organization’s international artists. At the opera, Early was part of a four-person office that plans roughly three major galas, seven black-tie dinners, and 50 donor receptions annually. She served as lead coordinator for the 500-guest Midwinter Gala in February.

According to a spokesperson for the Washington National Opera, the organization does not plan to hire a replacement for Early's position; instead, her duties will be assumed by other members of the department.

Early replaces the Performing Arts Society's former director of special events, Barbara Blauhut, who began her new role at WETA, Washington’s public broadcasting and television station, last month.
