1. DIGITAL FOOTBALL: The second N.F.L. Digital Media Summit @ SXSW brought 160 attendees to Austin just before SXSWi, piggybacking off of the success of the conference and allowing it to book high-profile tech speakers. Adweek: "For three days last week, Web marketers for the league's teams took in dozens of panels and breakout sessions, including speakers from notable brands like Twitter, Instagram, Blue State Digital, Mashable, Ticketmaster, Papa John's Pizza, Apple, and the University of Southern California (USC). The summit suggests the N.F.L. is very serious about getting its fragmented network of digital teams on the same page when it comes to interactive marketing." http://bit.ly/YkrFuh

2. PAY TO PLAY: After allegations it punished businesses—including chef Wolfgang Puck—that did not join a local chapter of the Better Business Bureau, the governing organization expelled it. In the pay-to-play scandal, ABC news reported that the organization gave high marks to fictional businesses that had paid membership fees, while business owners like Puck "were told they must become members to receive high marks. One of Puck's non-BBB restaurants received an F grade." Huffington Post: http://huff.to/10CzRq6

3. GETTING SMARTER AT SXSW: The photo social media site Highlight has upgraded its marketing efforts this year at SXSW, demonstrating its app from an ice cream truck and giving away ice pops. (Last year the founders walked around Austin wearing branded T-shirts.) Tech Crunch: "The Highlight team has been taking pics of the people it’s handing ice pops out to and then uploading them to the service, showing how easy it is to get them after they’ve been posted. Since Highlight’s photos are all tagged based on location, people who already have the app will be able to instantly see the pictures that have been taken of them." http://tcrn.ch/XGwShb
