Fashion Week Pics: Bon Appétit, In Style, and Harper's Bazaar Bring Pop-Up Promotions to Lincoln Center

Anna Sekula
September 16, 2010

With Stephanie Winston Wolkoff installed as the first fashion director of Lincoln Center, the performing arts campus is hoping to bring more fashion and events to its Upper West Side home. And indeed, the presence of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week—and the crowds of buyers, editors, designers, and press it draws—has lured more companies to position their promotional efforts in and around Lincoln Center.

In Style fashioned the Hauser Patron Salon of Alice Tully Hall into lounge for entertaining buyers, staff, and other guests of the magazine, while Harper's Bazaar, with the support of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and sponsorship from Willow Club, chose Avery Fisher Hall as the stage for its accessories bazaar, a showcase of 18 jewelers, milliners, footwear, handbag, and small leather goods designers.

For Bon Appétit, which has constructed a pop-up café for the public since 2007, the opportunity to reach a new and potentially broader audience was too big to pass up, so the food title opted to bring its promotional platform to Avery Fisher Hall. "Taste is the touchstone of both food and fashion, so Bon Appétit is delighted to bring these like-minded crafts together for a remarkable week of inspiration, entertainment, and fantastic food," said Carol Smith, vice president and publishing director of Bon Appétit and Gourmet.

Here's a look at the promotions that popped up.

Set up at Avery Fisher Hall, the exhibit opened on Monday, September 13, and continued through Wednesday, September 15, with collections from 18 designers.

Inside Alice Tully Hall's 2,400-square-foot Hauser Patron Salon, Caravents added custom furnishings and floral arrangements for In Style's Fashion Week lounge. The space opened on Saturday, September 11, and provided room for guests to eat, plug in laptops, and meet with clients. An additional section supplied publisher Connie Anne Phillips with a small office for meetings.

Now in its fourth year, the Bon Appétit Café took over the plaza-level lobby of Avery Fisher Hall, setting up its cafeteria-style food stands in a space that normally houses a restaurant.

Bon Appétit's lineup of participating chefs this year included the Lion's John DeLucie (pictured center), who made a cauliflower soup topped with sautéed wild mushrooms; Michael White, who created an open-faced olive-oil-poached tuna sandwich; and Christina Tosi, who supplied chocolate chip cake truffles for dessert.

As Avery Fisher Hall provided a larger space for Bon Appétit, the magazine was able to provide more seats for the café and stream videos of the Fashion Week shows from partner Style.com.

Although the uncluttered space of Avery Fisher Hall didn't give Bon Appétit much license to do a lot of build-out for its café this year, the magazine found ways to add playful touches, including posting signs on dressmaker dummies.
