Massive L.A. Live Project Breaks Ground

E548801 152
Last month, developers from AEG broke ground on an enormous new sports and entertainment center called L.A. Live—a $1 billion, four-million-square-foot complex adjacent to the Staples Center considered to be one of the largest commercial real estate developments in Los Angeles’ history. The city-sized complex will house a mix of venues. ESPN will build a sports entertainment venue—including a branch of the ESPN Zone—in a 120,000-square-foot broadcast studio. The Regal Entertainment Group plans to build a 90,000-square-foot multiplex with 3,700 stadium seats. The L.A. Live complex will feature a museum dedicated to the Grammys, a variety of restaurants and a bilevel nightclub, the Conga Room, with radio broadcast facilities and a 9,200-square-foot club upstairs. Hilton Hotels will operate the Los Angeles Convention Center Headquarters Hotel, a 50-story property with 1,100 guest rooms, and 160,000 square feet of meeting, ballroom, and event space. Ready to book? Not so fast—give it eight to 10 years to be completed. —Alesandra Dubin
