TECHNOLOGY: Podium Improves Videoconferencing

This summer Digital Video Enterprises (DVE) introduced a product that promises to take corporate videoconferencing to a more sophisticated level. Using the DVE Telepresence Podium, corporate officers and other speakers who can't attend a meeting in person can give their presentation using state-of-the-art video technology. The podium reflects a holographlike image that makes the speaker look as if he is in the room, even if he's thousands of miles away. The image is projected via LCD or plasma screen and then reflected onto a clear panel, creating an amazingly three-dimensional effect. DVE is the sole distributor of the podium. The unit sells for $28,000 or can be rented for $8,000 per day. —Juan Carlos Rodriguez
