The Pasadena Symphony Association has announced that the city's two significant orchestral institutions, the Pasadena Symphony and the Pasadena Pops Orchestra, will join to create a single orchestra that will perform year-round. Based on the model of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops, Pasadena's orchestra will have one board and one orchestra with two music directors.

The symphony association will serve as an umbrella organization that will present the Pasadena Symphony winter season at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium under music director Jorge Mester, as well as the newly named Pasadena Pops Symphony summer season at the Descanso Gardens under music director Rachael Worby. The association also has plans to expand existing educational and community programs. The planned integration begins immediately, with the dissolution of the Pasadena Pops Orchestra effective October 1. Rogers & Cowan announced the news Monday afternoon.
