Heidi Rosenau and Joe McGlynn
Heidi Rosenau and her husband, Joe McGlynn, have been swing dancing for three years, at festivals and competitions like the Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governors Island, Central Park Swings, and the French Quarter Festival in New Orleans, and at dance venue Swing 46. Eventually, their passion for 1920s- through 1940s-era dances like the Charleston, Lindy Hop, Collegiate Shag, and the Balboa—as well as their collection of authentic period attire—prompted inquiries about performing for events.
For the couple's first hired gig—as Authentic Vintage Swing—they entertained guests at a software company's holiday party this past winter, and they also danced for the Frick Collection's spring party in May. (Rosenau is the museum's manager of media relations and marketing.)The duo work to build the energy at events by encouraging others to join them on the dance floor and by demonstrating basic moves (though they are not instructors). They perform primarily in New York, but are open to inquiries for out-of-town gigs. Rates start around $400. Rosenau and McGlynn can also recommend bands that specialize in authentic jazz.
