Global media company Macmillan recently opened a speakers bureau, Macmillan Speakers, featuring a roster of its most popular authors. Talking heads include former U.S. undersecretary of commerce Robert J. Shapiro; Web entrepreneur Aliza Sherman; Glenn Kessler, diplomatic correspondent for The Washington Post; and William Shatner, who penned his autobiography last year. Typical fees range from $5,000 to $100,000. Speakers are available throughout the U.S. and Canada; travel fees are additional. One perk of working with Macmillan: The company can provide planners with bulk copies of a speaker’s book, often at a significant discount.
