2. MORE OSCAR DRAMA?: Beyond last week's roller coaster of announcements, the organizers of next year's Academy Awards may be facing other challenges. The New York Post: "After the fiasco [of the 2011 ceremony], marketing director Janet Weiss was replaced by New Line Cinema marketing and PR veteran [Christina] Kounelias. The Academy also has a new chief executive, Dawn Hudson, and chief operating officer, Ric Robertson, both newly created positions as of July. 'There is a whole new regime there. It’s not a simple situation' said one person close to process."

3. THE SECRETS TO COKE'S SUCCESS: The Ad:Tech conference keynote presentation from Coca-Cola's senior vice president of integrated marketing communications and capabilities, Wendy Clark, yielded some insight into the beverage giant's marketing. In addition to highlighting her eight principles for maximizing value, Clark spoke about finding creative ways to engage consumers on a personal level and adapt quickly. She highlighted one campaign in Argentina, which targeted a younger demographic on International Friendship Day, that "sold 4.3 million Coke cans in 10 minutes."

4. NICKELBACK'S BACKLASH: Apparently, people in Detroit aren't big fans of Nickelback. Following the announcement that the Canadian rock band will play at the halftime show for the Detroit Lions game on Thanksgiving Day, residents started an online petition to protest the headline entertainment. The petition, which was started on November 1, already has more than 50,000 signatures.
