Painting on a hotel’s walls would normally result in a fine or worse. At Marriott Stanton South Beach, groups can channel the arty vibes of the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami and “vandalize” the hotel’s walls during organized graffiti lessons. The “Murals & Meetings” activity pairs groups with local artists to create their own street-art masterpieces.

9. Kawaii Kitty Cafe

Kawaii Kitty Cafe opened in June. This Queen Village coffee shop offers an unusual twist on the traditional guest experience: People can hang out and play with several resident felines in the adjacent cat lounge. The vibrant, colorful space measures roughly 800 square feet and can fit as many as 36 people for mixers. Surround sound, a projector, and a screen are available for planners to use, and the menu of light bites includes vegan options and Japanese-inspired food. If attendees fall in love with any of the furry friends, they're all up for adoption through Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society.

TNT's 'Animal Kingdom'

By far the biggest spectacle during the festival was the giant wave pool in the middle of downtown Austin, erected by TNT and Civic Entertainment Group along with FlowRider. Participants were able to don wet suits, step onto a surfboard, and try their hands at riding a wave. The rest of the Southern California beach-inspired space included a beach bar, live graffiti wall, and sneaker bar.
