For a party planner, what could be more pressure than putting on a soiree for been-there-seen-that hospitality workers? Suzanne Cinq-Mars, regional director of sales for Metropolitan Hotel, recently faced that challenge when she was charged with planning the hotel's annual staff holiday party. "We wanted to ensure that the event would be exciting for the employees—right down to the menu and linens," Cinq-Mars said. For help designing the party and ensuring the decor was fresh and interesting, Cinq-Mars brought in full-service event company Solutions with Impact. The two-part event included a sit-down dinner and an after-party with entertainment and dancing. The dinner menu, from the Metropolitan's kitchen, featured pre-plated vegetable spring rolls, deep fried crab claw, tuna maki roll, and green salad. The main course included AAA grilled sirloin, mushroom succotash, and roasted garlic and sweet potato mash. MMD Inc., which handled the decor and flowers, supplied simple but elegant centrepieces made from low round acrylic containers filled with floating white orchids and candles.
Singers Marla Berman and Shawn Skeir performed during the after-party. When they weren't dancing up a storm, guests reclined on holiday-themed black, white, and red lounge furnishing from Yukon Events. Martini glasses filled with a red-current-based liquid, arranged in pyramids and placed in various locations throughout the ballroom, added to the festive mood. A clear, textured bar made a bold statement in the traditional-looking space. This was complemented by frosted glass cocktail tables topped by clear, tall vases filled with bright green palm fronds.
