A week after their high-energy performance for a massive crowd at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the Red Hot Chili Peppers headlined a decidedly more intimate affair, the Silverlake Conservatory of Music’s Hullabaloo fund-raiser. (Bassist Flea is a cofounder of the music education organization.) Others on the six-hour-long lineup included Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and the Ditty Bops, plus conservatory students and teachers. Jack Black and Woody Harrelson were among the M.C.s.In addition to ticket sales, silent and live auctions raised money for the nonprofit. The silent auction—held outdoors adjacent to the theater on asphalt covered in colorful area rugs—required potential bidders to trade their credit-card information for a sheet of bar-coded stickers they could affix to bid sheets, guaranteeing payment and preventing last-minute scratch-outs. A live auction featured lots both small (Hollywood Bowl tickets) and large (a set of eight Damien Hirst prints that fetched $150,000).
The Cinco de Mayo event at the Henry Fonda Theatre featured Mexican dinner buffets throughout from Some Like It Hot Catering. The conservatory’s Jennifer Rey, along with the other event chairs and committee, oversaw the event.
