L.A. Live's first phase is officially complete: The 7,100-seat Nokia Theatre debuted this month with a sold-out Dixie Chicks and Eagles concert. The venue offers unobstructed sight lines from every seat, with no seat more than 220 feet from the stage. The theater expects to host about 100 public concerts and shows annually, leaving room on the calendar for award shows, corporate events, product launches, speaker series, and television broadcasts.
There are 4,340 orchestra seats, 1,516 seats on the loge level, and 1,244 on the mezzanine level, plus 12 luxury boxes and 250 luxury suites. The Wachovia V.I.P. Lounge, a two-level private club with its own patio, holds 250, and the Nokia Lounge on the lower level holds 450; both can be used for private events (but not on show nights). The 180- by 80-foot stage is the largest in Southern California. Large LED screens flank the stage, and there are two more outside in the Nokia Plaza and the Staples Center Star Plaza.L.A. Live reps say the second phase of the $4 million development will be complete by October 2008, bringing 10 restaurants and facilities for ESPN. Phase three, a 54-story, 1,001-room convention hotel (combining the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton brands and 224 luxury condominiums known as the Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. Live), will debut in 2010.
