BMW Goes All In For Charity

The company's South Beach-inspired casino night supporting the Childhood Cancer Foundation featured roulette tables, palm trees, live music, and a waterfall.

October 19, 2007
BMW transformed its Toronto headquarters into a stylish South Beach gaming house for its annual charity casino night. Ben Greco, BMW’s marketing and communications manager, hired Designing Trendz to help plan and organize the posh fund-raiser in support of the Childhood Cancer Foundation.

Valets from Gatsby Valet, dressed in grey vests, white-collared shirts, white gloves, and black berets, welcomed guests arriving in their cars. As the partygoers made their way into the venue, Ryan Faubert of Rynopolis Studios snapped their photos in front of a backdrop of sponsor logos.

Inside, the sun spilled through the enormous floor-to-ceiling showroom windows onto the BMW vehicles on display. Vases of cymbidium orchids topped silver tables from Chair-man Mills, adding to the picture of elegance. Caterwaiters in white shirts and black vests passed hot and cold hors d’oeuvres from Encore Catering such as Thai rice paper rolls filled with mango and Asian vegetables. As well, a stationary serving station offered baked brie almandine and warm four-cheese spinach and artichoke dip.At 8 p.m., guests boarded a red-carpeted freight elevator decorated with temporary graffiti decals from Image Digital for transport to the fifth floor. There, they discovered more food options—three food stations served dishes such as venison dumplings served with Hong Kong stir-fried noodles and Prosciutto-wrapped filet mignon lollipops—and a full-on casino. Professional casino dealers sat at blackjack, poker, roulette, and craps tables waiting for guests to tempt lady luck in the name of charity. Hart Entertainment supplied the dealers and gaming tables. A red carpet, lush flower arrangements, white sofas, and two encased waterfalls from Wave Design enhanced the setting.

Later in the evening, Julie Chrochetière, former member of pop group Sugar Jones, performed with her band, while dancers performed in silhouette behind a frosted glass wall. Four 42-inch plasma screens from Phase 3 Audio Visual, which also supplied sound and lighting for the event, projected sponsor logos throughout the evening.

'It not only created a smooth transition, but it gave our audience an unexpected experience that was memorable and sparked conversation.”
