The second annual Lexpert Rising Star Awards honoured 45 of Canada's top lawyers on November 21 with a gala dinner at the Arcadian Court. Event host Thomson Carswell, which provides resources for legal, tax, and accounting professionals, partnered with Eden Planning once again this year to give the venue a formal flair.
"Eden Planning is top-notch in every way," said Donna Farber, who oversaw the event for Thomson Carswell. "They go above and beyond the call of duty." The design team dressed the two-storey venue in black, white, and silver. Waitstaff offered champagne to guests lounging on white leather sofas and contemporary square stools during a cocktail reception on the second floor while the Graham Howes Band provided background music.
On the main floor, a red carpet bordered by black velvet rope led the way to the entrance of the dining hall, where black-and-white feather columns stood in each corner. Black votive candles burned in silver candelabras, and silver star projections danced on the ceiling. Each table was draped in black and white linen, topped with white orchid centerpieces, and surrounded by silver Chiavari chairs with black cushions.A logoed hockey puck was placed at each setting in honour of keynote speaker Brian Burke, general manager of the 2007 Stanley Cup champion Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
Following the meal, CBC morning show host Heather Hiscox presented 45 successful lawyers under the age of 40 with their awards. Audiovisual firm Carter Craig Communications filmed and projected the evening’s events on five plasma TVs and two full-size projection screens located throughout the space.
