Grammy-related events took over Hollywoodland's social calendar this past weekend, and on Saturday night, Clive Davis's annual party at the Beverly Hilton was home to more than 1,000 guests, including singers Alicia Keys, Usher, and Fergie.
Planners transformed the ballroom with a neutral palette of beige and cream, with white hydrangeas and roses adding to the soft look. The menu included coconut shrimp and lobster-medallion canapés with caviar, grilled chicken breast filled with wild rice and sautéed wild mushrooms, and chocolate-dipped strawberries and truffles. The evening's performances, however, handpicked by the J Records founder, are what the night is known for, with newbie singer Leona Lewis, the Foo Fighters, Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, and Keys all taking the stage. We polled a few guests throughout the evening to get their take on the event.“I’m only on the salad course, but [the party is] great so far. There are a lot of people here; a lot of people come out for this. I’m definitely looking forward to the performers.”
—Christa Shaub, artist manager
“It was amazing, I can’t believe how many people came. It’s such an adrenaline rush for me, because when I’m performing at home [in England], it’s great, but when you go somewhere else and people really embrace you, it’s a really great feeling.”
—Leona Lewis, singer
“It’s the usual Clive Davis event that is star-studded and has great entertainment; it’s very Hollywood. I enjoyed myself, and this was my fifth Davis party.”
—Jim Farmer, consultant
“I thought the performers were great, and I especially loved the end. Alicia Keys was awesome. This was our first Clive Davis party—we are from Boston—so we didn’t know what to expect, but it was beyond our expectations.”
—Karen Clark, founder of AIR Worldwide
“Tonight was amazing, I have to say Alicia Keys was like the standout performance. To me, she was definitely the standout.”
—Jacqueline Lord, singer/songwriter
“I had such a blast. There were so many incredible artists with so much talent. It was an amazing experience to see them all there celebrating music.”
