Event planners delivered a home run at the All Children's Hospital's 16th annual Baseball for Kids gala and charity auction on March 15. The yearly event features a treasure trove of baseball Hall of Famers and current players. More than 550 attendees gathered at the A La Carte Event Pavilion, which had been transformed into an upscale gentlemen's-lounge-type atmosphere for the event.
Hospital campaign directors and committee members looked to Stefanie Berry of Showorks Inc. for the eighth year to make over the pavilion into a masculine lounge with rich shades of amber and sienna. The large ballroom space was strategically draped in segmented linens to evoke the curtains of a parlor window.Rich wood accents, from the mahogany Chiavari chairs to the large ornate bar, served as manly accents for the space. Tables were draped in simple yet lush fabrics in saturated hues of orange, red, and gold, with each featuring a clear glass lamp, which illuminated the place settings and created the old-fashioned smoking-room ambience.
The menu creatively referred to each course of the dinner with baseball terminology, including "the Warm Up" for the hors d'oeuvres, "Second Base" for the main course of miso-crusted sirloin with soy cilantro and ginger-seared mahi mahi, and rounded out by the "the Home Run" for dessert.
Celebrity M.C.s Joe Magrane and Dewayne Staats entertained guests throughout the night and encouraged them to mix and mingle with the 55 celebrity players who were present.
