Form follows function when the design of an object is primarily based on its intended use. The core design principle featured in this photo extends beyond the bite and into the platter and buffet design.
Occasions Caterers designed and built a sharp and unique passing tray for perfectly perched hors d'oeuvres. It’s not only about the impeccable quality of the food, but it’s also about the attention to detail that leave a lasting impact.
Small scallop shells are magnetically affixed to metal pins that appear to be floating over weathered driftwood branches. The presentation creates a visual cue for scallop hors d'oeuvres such as potato crisps topped with minted fava beans and smoked scallops; grilled adobo scallops with avocado-corn relish; and classics like scallops wrapped in bacon. Functionally, guests are able to remove the shell, enjoy the hors d'oeuvre, and then return the shell to the stand with ease and a little help from the attached magnet.
In the same way, Occasions Caterers’ custom-made bacon racks are passing trays recalling smokehouses where hams were smoked and cured. Guests can pluck a piece of crispy applewood smoked bacon from miniature "S" hooks attached to the wrought-iron stand. This is a terrific late night "breakfast" snack pass that is guaranteed to turn heads at any event.
The playful partnering of form and function makes for a great conversation stopper, as guests take a break from cocktail chatter to admire the presentation and take a bite.
