How Cirque du Soleil Provided the San Francisco Giants with a High-End Customer Engagement Event

The San Francisco Giants are known for many things, including their World Series championships and their loyal fan base. However, few know about the Giants' client-appreciation strategy. How do the San Francisco Giants give back to their most valuable clients?

As one of the longest established professional baseball teams, each Giants game is a source of excitement and inspiration. How can an organization renowned for its on-field talent create a customer-appreciation event that meets and surpasses the expectations of its most fervent fans? During last year's holiday season, the Giants' Client Relations team accepted this challenge.


The Giants sought to organize a festive event that would be a memorable experience for their supporters. The Client Relations team searched for venues and catering options throughout the Bay Area but ended up finding the solution in its own backyard—AT&T Park. To add excitement, the team explored unique ways to "wow" its clients.

Annemarie Hastings, vice president of client relations, one day passed a billboard advertising a Cirque du Soleil show to be held at AT&T Park. Having previously seen its shows in Las Vegas, Hastings knew the kind of high-quality, artistic entertainment the company provides. However, she never considered how Cirque du Soleil might fit in with her client-appreciation program. After receiving information about its dedicated corporate event team, she knew this could be an opportunity to provide an unforgettable experience for her clients.

The Giants sought to create a VIP experience at the show, giving clients access to the best seats and an exclusive VIP area before the show and during intermission. The area provided an elegant environment for casual networking, helping to strengthen the Giants' relationship with their very best customers.

"The Cirque du Soleil experience succeeds in surpassing our expectations and that of our customers. As Cirque du Soleil comes to San Francisco with a brand-new show every year or two, it provides us the opportunity to treat our VIPs to a first-class evening that they will associate with our organization and their relationship with us," Hastings said.
