Chicago's Redmoon Theater ceased operations in late December, citing financial woes as the reason for the abrupt closure. For 25 years, the theater staged wildly imaginative, free public spectacles, and described its mission as "engineering wonder" for the community. The troupe's singular, fantastical performance style carried over to its events, which were often indescribable. Case in point: A BizBash headline for one of its 2009 events improbably read: "Redmoon Theater Benefit Showcases Snorkelers on the Phone, Illuminated Peacocks, and Puppets in Pregnant Bellies." As we say goodbye to the company that surprised and delighted guests with flying swan headdresses, spinning bathtubs, and—yes—chatty snorkelers, here's a look back at some of its most inspirational event ideas.
