2. SUPER BOWL EFFECT: Although downtown Indianapolis saw huge crowds during Super Bowl weekend, neighboring communities didn't get as much business as expected. WEDDING PLANS INTERRUPTED: Wedding planners and venues are feeling the effects of the realignment of college football conferences as some event facilities want to give preference to football weekends. The New York Times: "At Texas Tech in Lubbock, a private club in the football stadium features on its Web site a photograph of a wedding cake situated on a table overlooking the playing field. Weddings, receptions and rehearsal dinners can book the club, but for the fall, ‘I have my hands tied,’ said Kristen Datko, the club's private events director. ‘The university is our landlord.’"

BOSTON: Penny Arcade Expo East, one of the largest video game conventions in North America, will take place in the Seaport District April 6-8.
CHICAGO: Northlight Theatre's "Under a Blu Moon" gala is February 24 at Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel. Michael Ingersoll of “Jersey Boys” will be the M.C. and auctioneer, and live and silent auction will include prizes such as dinner for four at Next.

LAS VEGAS: Tickets for Garth Brooks' new performance dates at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas will go on sale Saturday.
LOS ANGELES: To celebrate The Simpsons' 500th episode, Fox invited fans of the series to participate in "The Simpsons Ultimate Fan Marathon Challenge" at the Hollywood & Highland Center. Beginning Wednesday, 100 fans got together with the goal of watching 500 continuous episodes of the show in an attempt to break the Guinness world for the longest continuous television viewing. The 54th annual Grammy awards' electronic dance music segment under a tent at the Nokia Plaza used 70 of AirDD’s Hi-Lights. In the entryway, glowing red cones and columns surrounded performers and guests, and a wall of columns decked the stage.
An $8 million expansion of the Hotel Amarano Burbank is slated for completion in March. The new facilities will include 31 new guest rooms and suites, a pool and spa, and a 1,800-square-foot penthouse Chairman's Suite.
MIAMI/SOUTH FLORIDA: Turnberry Isle Miami appointed Victoria Chase as director of catering for the resort and club. Chase previously served as director of social catering at the Mandarin Oriental, Miami.
NEW YORK: Mayor Bloomberg and Council of Fashion Designers of American president Diane von Furstenberg announced Monday that Fashion Week, which kicked off last week, will generate $865 million for the city. Bloomberg also announced six new initiatives to support the local fashion industry.
