What She Does: Jang designs handmade invitations and paper goods with delicate fonts, graphics, and colors inspired by vintage prints and her taste for retro, 50’s-style crafts.
Her Background: After working in the film industry for years—including a stint as one of Jerry Bruckheimer's assistants—Jang started restructuring and selling vintage clothes on eBay before opening Bird in a Skirt in September 2004. In April, she left her most recent day job as a copy editor to at Variety to dedicate herself to her paper craft full time.
Now Jang can hand-print a run of 200 invitations. She uses smudge-proof ink to print on textured cardstock, which she then cuts and assembles by hand to give each invitation what she calls “a very clean look that has a slight vintage bent to it.” For larger orders, she gets help from a local printer. So far Jang has mostly worked on projects for personal clients, but she is eager to work with corporate and nonprofit planners seeking a distinctively dainty and handmade look.
