The event industry can be defined as much by the financial (a shaky economic recovery) as the frivolous (fancy cocktails! food trucks!). Summarizing this year means looking at how those different forces collided. In addition to identifying the biggest trends, we also spoke to a couple of planners who persevered in the face of a challenging year: They launched new projects. They remade existing endeavors to adapt to the current climate. And they put on ambitious projects that proved the ongoing power of events as marketing tools.
