If the name Organic Style conjures visions of Birkenstocks and tie-dye, rest easy—there was none of that at the magazine’s annual Women With Organic Style awards at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Hosted by the mag’s editor in chief, Jeanie Pyun, and planned by associate publisher Kristin Moshonas, the event honored 10 women whose work jives with the magazine’s feel-good, earth-friendly message, and was far more stylish and modern than crunchy and hippie.
Moshonas turned the jazz venue’s lobby into a colorful reception space. James Francois-Pijuan’s lush floral arrangements, made with organically grown flowers from Organicbouquet.com topped a central bar. Tables were draped with pink and orange linens from Party Rental. Great Performances’ buffet, which included salmon with fava and yellow and green wax beans, roasted green and white.phparagus, and spinach salad with Gorgonzola, walnuts, and apples, used all organic, locally grown ingredients. Even the invitations and program were printed on recycled paper.
Honorees included fashion design Stella McCartney, who eschews fur and leather in all her collections; children’s rights advocate Marian Wright Edelman; and actress Helen Hunt, for her advocacy of art education in schools, cleaning California’s coasts, and voting.
