When it comes to making events more eco-friendly, even small changes can add up to make a difference. Here are three products and services with green benefits.
1. First launched in Los Angeles, the Green Truck has now made its way to the streets of New York. The mobile restaurant, which runs on vegetable oil and biodiesel, offers organic fare made in a solar-powered commissary. Menus can be customized for private events; items may include breakfast burritos with Niman Ranch bacon, vegan sliders, vegetable quesadillas, or coffee-dusted flank steak. The company requires a minimum of about $1,500 for event booking.
2. Spirit of the Sun Solar Systems recently made its solar-powered generator available for rent. The product requires about four or five hours of full sun to produce enough power for at least three days' use. Or if the weather turns cloudy, it can be charged with an electrical cord plugged into an outlet. Rental fees start at $500 a week.
3. Ideal for tasting stations or culinary events, the EcoTaster is a new spoon made out of 100 percent recyclable, biodegradable paperboard. Each utensil can hold a sample-size portion of food. The product is shipped flat and is folded at one end to form a scoop. Pricing starts at $199.50 for a case of 5,000, and shipping is a flat rate of $36.50.
