Toronto to Host 2010 Canadian Open

The PGA Tour will stop in Toronto for the first time in more than 40 years in July 2010. The Canadian Open Golf Championship—Canada's only PGA Tour event—will be held at St. George's Golf and Country Club in Etobicoke, Mayor David Miller announced today.

"It's a great honour for Toronto to host the 2010 Canadian Open," Miller said in a statement. "This prestigious tournament will add even greater excitement to Toronto's roster of events for the summer of 2010. Visitors from around the globe will have the opportunity to enjoy our hospitality as we showcase our diversity and the city's proven ability to host international sports competitions." The Open, last held in Toronto in 1968, is expected to attract more than 100,000 attendees, and 1,700 volunteers will be recruited to support the event.

The 2008 Canadian Open takes place July 21 to 27 at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville.
