REACHING NEW HEIGHTS
Scheduled for completion in late 2009, the new Panama City-Bay County International Airport will not only increase accessibility to the area and attract larger groups, but is also part of the West Bay Area Sector Plan, a mixed-use initiative to conserve 41,000 acres of shoreline and wetlands, set to be the future home of a nature preservation center.
SHOP TILL YOU DROP
Set to open this spring, Pier Park, is a 1.1 million-square-foot retail and entertainment complex developed by real estate giant the Simon Property Group. In addition to retailers such as Target, Dillard's, and Old Navy, the open-air mall will also feature several restaurants available for groups, and a 16-screen movie theater. And the on-site lake will act as a beautiful backdrop for outdoor events.MAJOR MAKEOVER
Overlooking St. Andrew's bay, Bay Point Marriott Golf Resort & Spa recently completed a $20 million renovation, updating 316 guest rooms and 78 one- and two-bedroom golf villas. The renovation also included the addition of the 12,000-square-foot spa and a fifth pool, which can host 500 on its surrounding deck. The property's 40,000 square feet of meeting space can accommodate groups of as many as 1,500 in spaces ranging from the 11,600-square-foot ballroom to a boardroom for just under 20. Additionally, there are four on-site dining options, including the 3,000-square-foot golf course clubhouse, all of which offer private space for groups and are available for buyout.
FOR FUN AND FUNCTION
Celebrating its grand opening on the first of the year, the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort welcomed its new SeaWatch Conference and Entertainment Center. The three-story building sits adjacent to the resort, overlooking the gulf, and features floor-to-ceiling windows. The Sunset Lounge, on the top floor of the facility, is 2,000 square feet, features a martini lounge, and is available for private events and buyouts. The second floor features the 2,000-square-foot Grand View Ballroom, and the first floor boasts an activity center for families that offers organized activities daily. This spring the center also welcomed a three-treatment-room mini spa.
A FUTURE IN MEETINGS
Spanning 39 acres, the Grand Panama Beach Resort, a resort condominium community, is a 1,000-condominium property with a variety of amenities, such as six different pools and spas, three fitness centers, four full-service tiki bars, and a 55,000-square-foot retail shopping center with several restaurants. Developments to be completed in the next couple years include an 80,0000-square-foot on-site conference center that will be available to the public and residents.
A VILLAGE OF PLENTY
Currently under construction and set to open in phases, the Towne of Seahaven is a 52-acre village of residences, retail, nightlife, entertainment, and a resort. The first phase, Origin-a condominium that also offers vacation rentals-is currently the only property open at this time and will soon offer a 15th-floor sunset deck for events. Later phases of construction include a conference center that will accommodate as many as 5,000 people and amenities such as a water park, spa, and members-only club.
