September 17, 2015: James Bond to Have Royal Premiere, Hershey’s Reveals 3-D Printer for Chocolate, Why Holograms of Dead Music Stars Are an Unwelcome Trend

1. JAMES BOND TO HAVE ROYAL PREMIERE: The new James Bond film, Spectre, will get a royal premiere at the charity event Royal Film Performance October 26 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. USA Today: “Few promotional gifts are more desirable to filmmakers than to have their movie chosen for a ‘royal film performance,’ starting with Queen Elizabeth II as top draw. But at age 89, she doesn't do many movie premieres anymore so the spotlight now aims at her grandchildren, especially the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. Also, few film franchises are more useful for promoting British style, glamour and film-making chops around the world than the Bond films, currently starring Daniel Craig in the suave spy role. The movie producers said Spectre will be the third Bond film chosen as a RFP title since 1946, according to a press release.” http://usat.ly/1Kgi53H

2. HERSHEY’S REVEALS 3-D PRINTER FOR CHOCOLATE: Chocolate giant Hershey’s is showing off a 3-D printer for chocolate, giving attendees of conferences and trade shows the chance to create their own confections. TechCrunch: “Consumers interact with a library of 3D graphics on an iPad to get the machine to form a number of chocolate designs – including complicated hexagons and intricately laced patterns. The CocoJet works on open-source patterns so it’s possible to upload your own design to the CocoJet, too.” http://tcrn.ch/1FN54dN

3. WHY HOLOGRAMS OF DEAD MUSIC STARS ARE AN UNWELCOME TREND: The hologram trend began at Coachella in 2012, when an image of Tupac Shakur stunned fans during a Snoop Dogg set. Since then deceased stars such as Michael Jackson and Billie Holiday have gotten the hologram treatment. Earlier this week, promoters announced a world tour for the latest, Whitney Houston, in 2016. But the novelty may have worn off. New York Post: “Now, thanks to the rise of hologram-led performances, the posthumous careers of so many great musicians and singers are likely to become downright macabre. It’s not just the music that’s being dug up; it’s the actual image and likenesses of the artists themselves — and what’s being served up is essentially a ghoulish display of high-tech pop zombies. … To have their actual images re-purposed, manipulated and sold in death is taking things into a much more vulgar realm. The show doesn’t always have to go on.” http://bit.ly/1FP4EUj
