1. PARIS NIGHTCLUB WON'T BE DEFINED BY TRAGEDY: The manager of Le Bataclan—the 151-year-old music venue that was one of the sites of last week's Paris terrorist attacks—says it won't be defined by tragedy. The historic music hall is known for hosting artists that have ranged from Lou Reed and Jeff Buckley to Kanye West and Ellie Goulding. Billboard: "In addition to music, the venue hosts stand-up comedy and can even be rented out for bar mitzvahs and college reunions (the rows of mobile, fluffy red-velvet seating, though shabby, make the space especially versatile.)…Dominique Revert, the club’s co-manager who was not present the night of the shootings, conjures it now and says it will be Le Bataclan’s raison d’etre moving forward. 'It will reopen, no question about it,' he says. 'Hearts will be heavy for a few months, a few years. But we will reopen. We will not surrender.'" http://bit.ly/1MX1fF5
2. LOS ANGELES'S PROPOSED OLYMPIC VILLAGE POSES PROBLEMS: The Los Angeles Olympic committee is searching for alternatives for its 2024 Olympic village, as its current proposed location—a rail yard owned by Union Pacific Railroad—is now in jeopardy. The search happens less than three months after the city was selected as the United States candidate for the games. ESPN: "The committee steering the city's bid had proposed a $1 billion development on a rail yard where thousands of athletes would eat, sleep and stroll on tree-lined walks and clipped lawns. Virtually all the money to finance it would come from as-yet-unsecured private investment. Councilman Mitch O'Farrell told a city council committee Wednesday that it could cost up to $2 billion to buy the rail site, conduct an environmental cleanup and relocate the yard—even before any construction would begin. According to his estimate, that could triple the projected cost." http://es.pn/1SJ8CVb
3. WHY D.I.Y. WEDDINGS LOOK BETTER ON PAPER: As wedding costs rise, more and more couples turn to D.I.Y. weddings. But what many don't realize is how much time and effort it takes to personalize the affair. The New York Times: "For those couples who like to exhibit their inner Michelangelo or Martha Stewart, weddings have become festivals of do-it-yourself creativity. But in the days leading up to the event, a couple’s desire for those artisanal touches can come at a cost in lost hours and increased anxiety…While some make their own food and vows, most confine their D.I.Y. skills to labor-intensive peripherals. On Pinterest, the more popular of these items are glitter tea lights, wax-paper lanterns, tissue-paper pompoms, Jenga guest books and felt peonies. And how many hours might those projects require for completion? If you have to ask, you probably don’t have enough time." http://nyti.ms/1I267rq
