March 8, 2016: Jimmy Kimmel to Return as Host of Primetime Emmy Awards, SXSW to Debut "Robot Ranch," ‘Marie Claire’ to Take 200 Influential Women on Power Trip

1. JIMMY KIMMEL TO RETURN AS HOST OF PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS: ABC has tapped late-night host Jimmy Kimmel to host this year’s Emmy awards, which take place September 18 in Los Angeles. It’s the second time that Kimmel will helm the awards after a stint as host in 2012. What can viewers expect from this year’s show? USA Today predicts an installment of his “mean tweets” segment, some light-hearted teasing of the stars in the audience, as well as some political humor: “Considering how much the late night host has had to say about the election this year so far (AND IT'S ONLY MARCH, PEOPLE) we think he'll have some material of some sort when September rolls around.” http://usat.ly/1OYqbwB

2. SXSW TO DEBUT "ROBOT RANCH": South by Southwest Interactive will introduce attendees to robots who can mix drinks, take photographs of event guests, and deliver groceries, among other functions. They will be housed at the conference’s first “Robot Ranch.” Adweek: “While still a nascent area, especially for marketers, the robot realm is finally more reality than sci-fi. … [At Robot Ranch], attendees will have the chance to get to know AI animals in a fun and friendly way, according to the organizers. Robot Ranch will feature a range of robotics companies and their creations, with each having its own fenced ‘pen,’ enabling attendees to get their hands on the machines and chat with creators.” http://bit.ly/21RyPK0

3. ‘MARIE CLAIRE’ TO TAKE 200 INFLUENTIAL WOMEN ON POWER TRIP: Marie Claire is jumping into the women’s conference space with Power Trip, a “36-hour in-flight networking and pop-up conference in San Francisco.” Boldface names such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Drew Barrymore, Tracee Ellis-Ross, Donna Karan, and Google’s head of industry fashion, Lisa Green, will participate in the event, which begins on the flight to the event. Under a partnership with JetBlue, there will be a plane carrying 100 guests from New York and 100 more will join them in San Francisco for the two-day junket. Women’s Wear Daily: “Power Trippers plan to leave after breakfast on March 21, spend the night at the W Hotel San Francisco and return in time for a late dinner on Tuesday. Cocktails at Xochi Birch’s house will be followed by a dinner elsewhere with Barrymore handling the wine pairings.” http://bit.ly/1QDWDtV
