1. FACEBOOK ADDS LIVE STREAMING TO EVENT PAGES: Facebook has announced that its live streaming platform, Facebook Live, will expand to include live broadcasts in Facebook Groups and Events, as well as a Reactions feature in response to those broadcasts. When the live streaming feature was introduced eight months ago, users were only been able to broadcast based on their privacy settings. VentureBeat: “But what if you’re interested in live streaming to your fans or only to friends who are attending a specific event—like your birthday party, wedding, or other special occasions? That’s possible now with support for Groups and Events on the social network. Musicians, celebrities, and V.I.P.s can host a broadcast within an event page—offering fans a behind-the-scenes look at what’s going on—or even schedule a live Q&A session, like a video-based Ask Me Anything event.” http://bit.ly/1MdC6fV
2. INDIO FESTIVALS LOOK TO EXPAND: Goldenvoice—the promoter for Coachella and the Stagecoach Country Music Festival in Indio, California—has asked city officials to raise the attendance cap for both events. The proposed gradual increase would be from 99,000 guests to 125,000 for Coachella, and 75,000 to 85,000 for Stagecoach. The Desert Sun: "In order to make room for the extra festival attendees, Goldenvoice is proposing to increase the venue size by about 50 acres along Monroe Street, Avenue 50, Avenue 52, and Polo Road. Different areas would be designed to hold campers, taxis, and ridesharing services and act as open spaces for the concert attendees. … Even without the expanded capacity, the three festival weekends are expected to generate $403 million for businesses across the Coachella Valley this year, according to projections announced by the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership and Greater Palm Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau in March." http://desert.sn/1REKoxz
3. WHY THIS FESTIVAL FOR FEMALE ENTREPRENEURS IS IMPORTANT: Around 400 women are slated to attend the sixth annual WeFestival, which takes place next week in New York. Joanne Wilson, co-founder of the festival that is geared toward female entrepreneurs, spoke with New York’s The Cut about how she created the event with Nancy Hechinger—a professor at New York University’s Interactive Telecommunication Program—and why the all-female event is more important than ever. The Cut: “We liked the idea of calling it a festival because, like a music festival, you can come in and out of different bands, you don't just sit there for one thing. WeFestival is a place where women can connect and be heard. It also gives women the opportunity to meet other women who are in the trenches, building businesses. … At the end of the day, the reason I do this is because I want to see more women run better and bigger businesses. I want these women to stay in the public eye. So that the 12- and 13- and 8-year-olds who are out there can say, 'I want to be that when I grow up.' If we don't create that and enable that, then we're going to have another generation who doesn't have any role models out there.” http://thecut.io/1q720rg
