Sip Café Perks Up Post Office Square (and Adds Catering Menu)

Sip Café

A section of the city rife with corporate outposts now has a coffee shop with local flair and business catering. Post Office Square Park’s glass gazebo—a space that housed the now-defunct Z Square Café—reopened this fall as Sip Café.

The brainchild of coffee guru Jared Mancini (former manager of Torrefazione Italia and George Howell Coffee Company), Sip Café brings coffee, pastries, sandwiches, salads, and soups to the serene greenery on the edge of the city’s bustling financial district. The bright 800-square-foot gazebo boasts soaring ceilings, stained concrete floors, and a green mosaic-tiled service counter against a backdrop of classic white subway tile and white pendant lamps.

Splashes of vibrant green on the sign, menu, and cabinets offset dark wooden tables and chairs, while fresh floral arrangements crafted weekly by designer Moira Thompson of Moss Florals add pops of contrasting color. A patio filled with wrought-iron tables and chairs is available for seasonal seating.

While the focus is on the drinks, Sip’s menu has breakfast and lunch options for the crowds swarming Post Office Square, with options ranging from sandwiches served on bread from Cambridge-based Iggy’s to fresh produce sourced from Bolton’s Nashoba Valley Winery and Orchard.

Sip’s catering menu—launched about three weeks ago—is available for groups of five or more and includes breakfast, sandwich platters, sweets, and individual boxed meals, all priced per person.
