May 22, 2014: 9/11 Museum Dedication Party Criticized, See Budweiser’s World Cup Hotel, W.N.B.A. First Pro League to Market to Gays and Lesbians

1. 9/11 MUSEUM DEDICATION PARTY CRITICIZED: An invite-only reception to dedicate the new 9/11 Museum is being criticized as insensitive because it included alcohol and a guest list that turned away some first responders. New York Daily News: “Former Mayor Mike Bloomberg and Condé Nast honchos were among those who nibbled crab cakes and shrimp cocktail hors d'oeuvres at the black tie affair, billed as a dedication ceremony, according to sources. But one museum employee at the event, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described it as a festive affair. … The 9/11 Museum has come in for heavy criticism from some survivor families as it tries to balance its dual roles as tourist site and shrine.” http://nydn.us/1oe4NJw

2. SEE BUDWEISER’S WORLD CUP HOTEL: Similar to its Bud Light Hotel during the Super Bowl, Budweiser is taking over a hotel in Brazil during the World Cup that opens next month. Creativity: “The Budweiser Hotel will have views of Copacabana beach, an indoor and outdoor bar, a rooftop pool and a performance stage for musical acts, guest lounges, parties with partner brands, and more. At the opening, it will feature a performance by DJ Nicky Reomero and throughout the tournament it will be home to appearances from FIFA World Cup players as well as concerts from Zedd, Major Lazer, Above & Beyond and others. The brand is also hosting World Cup viewing parties in 12 countries around the world, encompassing over 3,000 events over the 30 days.” http://bit.ly/1sVPnK8

3. W.N.B.A. FIRST PRO LEAGUE TO MARKET TO GAYS AND LESBIANS: The W.N.B.A. announced a marketing plan that includes targeting the L.G.B.T. community, a first for a professional sports league. Los Angeles Times: “The effort includes having teams participate in local gay and lesbian pride festivals and parades, working with advocacy groups to raise awareness of inclusion, and advertising with lesbian media. A nationally televised pride game will take place between Tulsa and Chicago on June 22.” http://lat.ms/1lG2Odf
