August 27, 2015: New York Fashion Week's New Headquarters, the Complex Back Story to the U.S. Open Courts, Facebook Blocks Promotion for Feminist Conference

1. NEW YORK FASHION WEEK'S NEW HEADQUARTERS: At next month's New York Fashion Week, IMG will debut a space dubbed NYFW HQ with extensive programming. Vogue: "To those who think it’ll serve as a lounge for editors and buyers to rest their stilettoed feet between shows, think again. HQ will showcase art installations, talk series, and additional events from September 11 to September 16. Some happenings will be open to the public, others will require IMG’s NYFW credentials, and several will be invitation-only." http://vogue.cm/1hXFjCg

2. THE COMPLEX BACK STORY TO THE U.S. OPEN COURTS: To achieve the perfect tennis courts for the U.S. Open—the right texture, buoyancy, and color, among other factors—there is a complicated and highly technical process in which details down to the last millimeter matter. Sports Illustrated: "To ensure the formula rings true across all courts … DecoTurf uses a computerized, controlled manufacturing plant to make all products in venue-specific batches. All ingredients are mixed by weight to ensure consistency across the batch." http://on.si.com/1K2OLR9

3. FACEBOOK BLOCKS PROMOTION FOR FEMINIST CONFERENCE: Facebook denied author Anne Summers's effort to promote a conference celebrating the 40th anniversary of the book Damned Whores and God’s Police because it contains profanity, Summers said. She had tried to "boost" a post promoting the event but was blocked. The Guardian: "Boosting, which increases the number of feeds in which a post will appear, is subject to approval and more stringent standards than an average post on the social media platform. Summers said she had boosted posts before – including those promoting other events – but had never been knocked back." http://bit.ly/1hdUlD1
