* INCOMING *

1. EMMY REVIEWS: The 63rd Primetime Emmy awards aired last night on Fox from the Nokia Theatre at L.A. Live. Jane Lynch of "Glee" hosted ceremony, which saw a surprise appearance by Charlie Sheen and a medley of "Saturday Night Live" songs from the likes of Maya Rudolph, Michael Bolton, and John Stamos. Some reviews:

New York Post: “All in all, last night’s show may go down as one of the least entertaining shows about entertainment in Emmy history…Any hope of relief was stifled each and every painful time they brought out the ‘EmmyTones’ a silly, made-up group of singers that were as exciting as a night with Up With People as they sang an intro for each new category.”

Vulture: “The opening number, in which Lynch went from TV show set to TV show set, took a while to ramp up, with Lynch first checking in on a number of shows that don’t deserve all that much attention (ahem, Entourage).”

Variety: "Like Jimmy Fallon and Neil Patrick Harris before her, Jane Lynch proved an inspired choice by being funny and energetic without resorting to the kind of scorched-earth tactics that burned the bridge between the Golden Globes and Ricky Gervais (who brilliantly poked fun at the incident in a pretaped segment)."

Gawker: "Before presenting the Emmy for lead actor in a comedy series, Charlie Sheen took a minute to wish his former ‘Two and a Half Men’ coworker well. Nice? Yes. Exciting? Sorry, Charlie."

2. EMMY BALL: From L.A. bureau chief Alesandra Dubin: The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' Governors Ball grew to the largest guest count in its history, with a total hovering around 3,900. The crowd found a black-and-white look inspired by '60s mod at the Los Angeles Convention Center. With a stated theme of "mod illusions," the event employed lots of movement, projection, and other surprises—such as black-and-white-costumed performers who interacted with guests. Cheryl Cecchetto with her team at Sequoia Productions produced the ball for the 14th consecutive year. The full story—with photos—will be on BizBash.com shortly.

3. SHAKEUP AT BRIDES: Last week Conde Nast let go the editor in chief of Brides magazine, Millie Martini Bratten, and replaced her with Marie Claire executive editor Anne Fulenwider. WWD: “Condé Nast plans to fold the Brides Local magazines, which are published in 16 different regions.”

4. FUTURE OF FOOD PREP: Cornell Creative Machines Lab has been experimenting with new ways to create food by hand. The lab is looking into a three-dimensional food printer, which uses edible inks and electronic blueprints to print edible items. Fast Company: "The newest 3-D food printer, now being honed at CCML, can produce: tiny space shuttle-shaped scallop nuggets, and cakes or cookies that, when you slice into them, reveal a special message buried within, like a wedding date, initials or a corporate logo. They can also make a solid hamburger patty, with liquid layers of ketchup and mustard, or a hamburger substitute that’s made from vegan or raw foods."
