1. MTV'S LOW V.M.A. RATINGS: It seems Thursday's event-heavy evening—Fashion's Night Out, the Democratic National Convention, and the Toronto International Film Festival kickoff—had negative effects on the Video Music Awards numbers. Deadline: "Despite being the top show on cable, the network’s Video Music Awards lost more than half its audience compared with the 2011 show, which drew a record 12.4 million viewers. [This year’s] V.M.A.s pulled in 6.1 million and earned a 2.8 rating, far below 2011’s 6.2." http://bit.ly/P9noH8
