1. CONVENTION IMPACT: The 2012 Democratic National Convention was the largest event in Charlotte, N.C.’s history, with an economic impact of $164 million. That's less than Denver in 2008 but still helped the local economy through spending on hotel stays, security equipment, and sales tax. Charlotte Observer: "City leaders said the report showed that the DNC was worth it for the city financially. Mayor Anthony Foxx said the city should try for other events, including the Republican National Convention in 2016 and the Super Bowl. He also mentioned that Charlotte could one day host the Olympics." http://bit.ly/Vtt7MW

2. SUPER ADS: Venables Bell & Partners co-founder Paul Venables shares what makes a winning Super Bowl ad—and why some lack imagination. AdWeek: "All that consumer-generated stuff is getting old. I would love it if it was showing a new way of doing ads, talking about products or telling a story, but they just mimic our industry. We talk about the gimmicks, the talking babies, people getting kicked in the nuts, horses and dogs, and whatnot; I would love to just see some good stories return." http://bit.ly/Vfyvjo

Here's a sneak peek at some of this year's Super Bowl ads from Kia, Toyota, GoDaddy, and others. New York Post: http://bit.ly/WlOZrf

3. RECORD-SETTING CONCERT: Who has the Guinness world record for the world’s deepest underwater concert performed in front of an audience? (And who knew that was a thing?) Norwegian television producer Odd Arvid Stromstad created the show for an energy company for a corporate anniversary. New York Times: "I suppose if I really thought about it, I wouldn’t have said yes to producing the concert. Thinking too long about all that could possibly happen underwater would have given me a nervous breakdown. We actually had to go through some rescue training." http://nyti.ms/14qFbzU
