1. OLYMPIC ADVERTISING IN-DEMAND DESPITE BOYCOTT PUSH: NBC says brands remain committed to advertising during next year's Winter Olympics in Sochi despite host Russia's new anti-gay laws that have drawn calls for boycotts. BuzzFeed: "So far, brands that have bought advertising time on NBC remain committed, but with six months left to go before the opening ceremonies and the potential for a boycott rising, a lot can happen that could change their minds." http://bit.ly/1eOLvnp

2. POLICE HAND OUT DORITOS FOR POT FEST PROMOTION: In “Operation Orange Fingers,” Seattle police will hand out bags of Doritos at the city's Hempfest, a pot festival, on Saturday. Seattle Times: "Officers will distribute one-ounce bags of nacho-cheese chips with educational information affixed to them about the state’s new legal pot law. The bags also will contain a label with a link to the department’s “Marijwhatnow” FAQ, which explains that, yes, adults are now allowed to possess up to an ounce of weed." http://bit.ly/1dcQaRY

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA:  Jamie Foxx will host the B.B.V.A. Compass Concert for Human Rights on September 14 at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center in Alabama. The event will feature performances by Jill Scott and Charlie Wilson.

BOSTON:  Whisk, the pop-up restaurant, now has a semi-permanent location at 351 Hanover Street. Open Tuesday through Saturday, the venue serves three-, five-, and seven-course meals made with seasonal ingredients. Whisk's mission is to train aspiring chefs who have spent time in correctional facilities and help them enter the culinary workforce.

CHICAGO:  The Dwayne Wade & Wade's World Benefit Foundation—10th Anniversary Celebration Gala is September 6 at the Peninsula Chicago. Event Creative will handle decor and production.

Sugar Hills Bakery will open its third location in Elston Plaza on October 3. The bakery will have an appointment room where clients can commission custom cakes for events.

The Rosenthal Group will open a 9,200-square-foot dual-concept venue in Streeterville in late fall. The still-unnamed project will include a chef-driven restaurant and a Sopraffina Marketcaffè in the adjoining space.

LAS VEGAS:  Casino City Times: "Smart City Networks was replaced Tuesday by Cox Nevada Telcom as the main provider of telecommunication services for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, marking the end of a 15-year partnership." http://bit.ly/14Pzo7N

LOS ANGELES:  The first public art festival at Los Angeles International Airport, Influx, is on view now through the end of the year.

MAUI:  The 290-room Andaz at Wailea will open in September with 15,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, an oceanside Morimoto restaurant, and a demonstration kitchen area for group events.

Maui-based artist Shane Robinson's work, which features Hawaiian images, is now available for group amenities. Works can be printed on any surface and custom pieces are available.

DMC Island Events now offers several island-inspired evening events featuring locally sourced elements such as entertainment, decor, lighting, and florals, as well as farm-to-table food and beverage.

MIAMI/SOUTH FLORIDA:  Winter Music Conference announced its 2014 dates. The event is scheduled for March 21-30.

NEW YORK:  State Farm will sponsor performances at the MTV Video Music Awards preshow August 25 outside of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Pop singers Austin Mahone and Ariana Grande are among the performers.

Tough Mudder, which hosts endurance challenges in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia, announced a partnership with Eventbrite for registration, fund-raising, event-day check-in, and other services.

CMJ 2013 Music Marathon, October 15-19 at New York University's Helen and Martin Kimmel Center, announced many of its panels, which include Brand You: Maximizing Corporate Partnerships; iTunes: A Decade Later; and EDM: The Last Dance?

SAN DIEGO:  W San Diego named Simon Dolinky as executive chef of the property’s signature restaurant, Kelvin, and hired Megan Guy as the property's "W Insider."

TORONTO:  The Inspiration Gala Toronto to benefit Amfar will take place at the Carlu on September 8. Kenneth Cole and Hilary Swank are the honorary chairs, Alan Cumming is the host, and the night will include a performance by the Gossip and a fashion presentation from Marc Jacobs.

The Drake Hotel has once again partnered with the Toronto International Film Festival as a gold-level hospitality partner. Throughout the fest's September 5-15 run, the hotel will offer style cocktails and host parties inspired by the London rock 'n' roll scene of the 1970s; a special opening-night event is September 5.

WASHINGTON:  Tickets are on sale for Rock the Bells, September 28-29 at the Festival Grounds at RFK Stadium. Performers include Kid Cudi, Wu-Tang Clan, J. Cole, and Wale.
