DEADLY LAS VEGAS NIGHTCLUB RAISES SECURITY QUESTION: A dispute over a $30 cover charge to Drai’s After Hours nightclub at Bally's casino on the Strip resulted in a shooting that killed one patron and injured two employees. Los Angeles Times: "Guns are not allowed on properties owned by Caesars Entertainment Corp., including Bally's, but that security does not scan guests for weapons when they enter. [Caesars Entertainment Corp. spokesman Gary Thompson] said the policy was not likely to change because of the shooting. 2. CHICAGO LOSES ANOTHER BIG CONVENTION: The Bio International Convention announced Monday it would leave Chicago for San Francisco in 2016. It's the second trade show to change locations in the past week after the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show opted to move to Las Vegas. Chicago Tribune: "Chicago’s convention business has come under pressure in recent years as it has become known for high costs. Since easing union rules at McCormick Place in 2011, however, it has snared some new convention business, most recently the Dealernews International Powersports Dealer Expo. CHICAGO: Wicked will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a slew of local events. The Broadway in Chicago show will return to the Oriental Theatre from October 30-December 21, and in the days leading up to the play's October 30 anniversary there will be a citywide costume contest, sing-along, and more.
Barbakoa is now open in Oakbrook. The Latin eatery serves paellas made in a wood grill, Peruvian-style ceviches, and specialty tacos; the venue also has a private dining room.

TORONTO: The Whole Life Expo is November 22-24 at the Metro Convention Centre.
WASHINGTON: Chef Lance London is opening the third location of Carolina Kitchen, his first in the city, in January. The 6,000-square-foot space on Rhode Island Avenue will serve Southern comfort fare and seat 152 in the dining room, plus a 40-person private event space on the second floor.
